#SAVESTARGATE CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF NEW INTERNATIONAL
FAN ORGANIZATION, THE CHEVRON ALLIANCE, AT LA COMIC CON
LOS ANGELES -- During a hosted panel discussion at LA Comic Con, #SaveStargate announced it was forming a new fan organization, The Chevron Alliance. The new nonprofit will serve as a membership organization for Stargate fans to connect with other enthusiasts and celebrate the franchise through exclusive in-person and online events.
"We started from a place of shared grief over the cancellation of the show we had been looking forward to," said Shelley Knepley, a team lead for the #SaveStargate campaign. "Over the last four months, the entire team watched as the campaign organically grew into this vibrant global community, and we knew fans wanted more than what the #SaveStargate campaign alone could provide."
Stargate fans have been rallying online and at global in-person events since the June 2nd Variety item announcing the cancellation of the Martin Gero-led continuation that was 20 weeks into preproduction. Within weeks of the announcement, fans crowdfunded for a plane to fly over the studio with a #SaveStargate banner. An online petition has surpassed over 125,000 signatures as word of the campaign has spread through appearances at events such as San Diego Comic Con, DragonCon, Ascension Con, and through a growing social media presence that drew the attention of actors and producers.
"The Chevron Alliance will serve as a hub for Stargate fans worldwide to come together and keep the gate open," added Knepley. “The #SaveStargate campaign isn’t going away. It will remain a core goal of The Chevron Alliance as our new organization works to advocate for the Stargate franchise we all love so much."
Next year marks the 30th anniversary of the premiere of Stargate SG1, and The Chevron Alliance is already hard at work planning exclusive celebration events for fans worldwide. A formal launch will occur in the coming months.
